Do I need a permit to cut down a tree?

Permit requirements depend on local municipal laws. In the City of Ottawa, a tree removal permit is required if the tree is over 30 cm in diameter at chest height. In the Township of Russell, a permit is not required to cut down a tree.

How will the tree be cut down?

Tree removal methods depend on the size, condition, and location of the tree. We may climb the tree or use bucket trucks and cranes when needed. Professional rigging equipment is used to safely lower branches and logs to avoid damage to surrounding property.

When should a tree be removed?

A tree should only be removed when there is no other option. This includes situations where a tree is dead, unsafe, diseased, insect-infested, leaning, blocking construction, or growing too close to a home or structure.

Why Hire us for Arborist Services in Canning?

Tree work looks simple until something goes wrong. An untrained cut can split a trunk unexpectedly, drop a limb onto a roof, or leave a tree structurally compromised for years without anyone noticing.

In Canning and across Nova Scotia, weather events, wet soil conditions, and aging trees create risks that take a trained eye to identify. Our Tree Care Pros assess each tree as a whole, taking into account structure, root health, surrounding hazards, and your goals before any chainsaw work begins.

When you hire Knotty Tree Care, you are hiring people who treat your property the way they would treat their own. We work carefully, communicate clearly, and hold ourselves to the standards of the ISA arboriculture profession.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What true professionals! It was a rather windy the day when they arrived but that did not affect their ability to get the job completed. They were always communicating through their head sets as the work was getting done, keeping everyone safe. Riley had told us when we hired them that when everything was completed our property would look like they had never been there and boy they lived up to it. I would highly recommend this team!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does tree removal cost in Canning?

Cost depends on the size, location, and complexity of the tree. We provide free, transparent quotes after assessing your specific situation, so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.

How long does it take to remove a tree?

Most residential tree removals in Canning are completed in a single day. Larger or more complicated jobs may take longer, and we always give you a realistic timeline upfront.

How often should trees be pruned or trimmed?

Most trees benefit from professional pruning every two to three years. Fast-growing species or trees near structures may need more frequent attention. Our Tree Care Pros can recommend a customized schedule tailored to your property’s needs.

Do My Trees Need Annual Check-Ups?

Annual assessments are a smart practice, especially for mature or high-value trees. Catching problems early often means simpler, less costly solutions down the road.

Will Insurance Pay for Tree Removal in Canning?

Coverage depends on your policy and the circumstances. Trees that fall due to storms and damage structures are often covered, while the removal of healthy trees for convenience is typically not. Check with your provider for specifics.
